This weekend saw the coming of a long awaited King family reunion close to my aunts home in Wales. This was planned to coincide with my cousin Emily being home from New Zealand with her 7yr old son Samuel. It was Daniel’s first trip on a ferry and also his first time meeting his uncle (my brother) and his wife as well as his cousin Samson. He also met some of his extended family, my aunt and her partner and of course my cousin and her son. It had been something like 18 years since I saw my cousin Emily and it felt like it had only been a week. With the obvious exception that we all have kids now 🙂
Seeing Daniel play with my nephew Samson was a real treat, I can’t wait for them to be a bit bigger
We all stayed in a beautiful farm house not too far from Llandrindod Wells in Wales. The owners of the farm welcomed us with a freshly baked jam & cream sponge cake. My aunt had also pre-ordered a half a pig for us all for Sunday dinner, the farmer and his daughter took one of the pigs to be slaughtered the day we arrived. The pigs are all raised and feed off the land belonging to the farm. One of the large sows had just given birth to a load of very cute piglets. The whole living farm experience was great for the kids, they had a really good time and waking up in the morning to little lambs, hens and cockerel running around in your front garden is just brilliant.
I’d like to think that Daniel will have made lots of great memories over the weekend but I doubt he will remember any of it at such a young age, thankfully the good company and great weather afforded me the opportunity to take a few nice photo’s to remember the occasion.
A really wonderful weekend.
Taken on a recent visit to see my brother in law and his wife at their home south of Galway. It is a visit that has been in the planning stages for ages as my sister in law is due to have her first baby very soon. They recently had a lot of new building work done to their house and so the girls spent ages exploring and playing. It was funny to see Daniel trying his best to interact with his sisters. Even if that meant being surrounded by barbie dolls and bright pink handbags, he enjoys their company a lot and has all manner of little noises and facial expressions for them.
The big news of the week is that my sister in-law gave birth to a healthy baby boy a day after our visit. Talk about close timing 🙂
Welcome baby Oscar!
To Damian & Rita, Enjoy every single little moment with your son.
We decided to take a drive up to Glendalough for a walk and to enjoy the fine weather. Turns out half of Ireland had the same idea. Who could have guessed?! The queue of cars to get into the car park at the top lake was all the way back as far as the Glendalough Hotel, so we quickly did a u turn and headed out through Laragh. What started out as a short 20 minute drive to Glendalough turned into one of my favorite drives through Laragh and onto Rathdrum where we decided to visit Avondale House.
Avondale House, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow was the birthplace and home of Charles Stewart Parnell (1846-1891). With forest and park land stretching out over 500 acres, it’s the perfect location for family walks or a picnic.
There happens to be a nice outdoor playground for kids which was our first stop off point on our walk. Daniel loved the swings.
I didn’t intentionally set out to shoot straight into the sun but Daniel was fascinated by all the colours coming off the front of the lens. Turns out I like the effect..
I’ll upload a few more photo’s from the day over on pix.ie
Highly recommend a visit and a walk around the grounds and parkland of Avondale house.
Wow, that was such a great couple of weeks of fine sunny weather! Hoping that we will see plenty more of it this summer. It has been a great opportunity for me to photograph my gang more than usual.
Daniel is starting to push himself up on all fours and is nearly ready to crawl, although I have yet to capture that properly. This little series was captured while the kids were playing trains one sunny afternoon. Daniel was the train driver. Even though he is still way too young to understand the game, for the most part he enjoyed himself, rocking forwards and back with the girls. As you can see in the last shot, Carla insists that he keep playing when he has clearly had enough, lol
